Edition history

v3.0.0 — September 7, 2026

The September edition brings the handbook into techne.ai/handbook/ as part of the main website. It preserves the existing chapter structure and adds shared navigation, chapter contents, previous/next reading links, website breadcrumbs and connections to the relevant briefings, tools and libraries.

Source and copy corrections

• Updated the EU AI Act chapter for the adopted 2026 amendment and scoped transition dates, separating provider and deployer obligations.
• Replaced the superseded Colorado framework and added New York’s amended RAISE provisions; corrected selected Texas, California, Utah, New York City and Illinois descriptions.
• Distinguished federal executive direction, agency obligations and statutes; corrected the NIST document/date conflation and current TAKE IT DOWN platform timing.
• Reviewed international and sector-specific descriptions against primary sources; removed unsupported predictions and assertions of comprehensive coverage.

• Corrected ISO/certification claims, copyright-case summaries, privacy/technical-safety descriptions and frontier-model governance distinctions.

• Identified the maturity frameworks as illustrative planning aids, not validated benchmarks or guaranteed paths to certification.
• Removed unsupported first/largest/outcome guarantees and stale model-release lists where they did not help the reader’s decision.

Website and download

• The handbook now uses the main site’s typography, colors, primary navigation, footer, Terms, Privacy and corrections links.
• Site-wide handbook links now point to the internal address instead of opening an isolated workers.dev publication.
• Chapter URLs remain individually addressable under /handbook/. Existing legacy chapter/anchor links are mapped to their equivalents.
• The complete PDF is regenerated from the same chapter content, with an edition date and source-parity check. No account, payment or Microsoft Forms submission is required to read or download this public reference.

The old host is retained for redirects after the new edition passes deployment checks; it is not the source of a separately maintained current edition. This publication remains distinct from paid library content and does not change member access rules.

v2.0.0 — May 11, 2026

The May edition restructured the original single-page handbook into a multi-page publication and added US state-law, copyright and frontier-model coverage. It was served separately on Cloudflare Workers. Some legal summaries, dates and certification statements in that edition were inaccurate or became superseded; the September edition above replaces them. Historical release descriptions are not current legal guidance.

v1.0.0 — March 2025

The initial public release introduced AI governance, ISO/IEC standards, EU AI Act concepts, NIST AI RMF, privacy, role-specific guidance, a glossary and six maturity-planning frameworks.

Maintaining an edition

Substantive corrections should update the affected chapter, its review date and this history. Regenerate and visually check the PDF when chapter content changes, and verify chapter links and old-URL redirects before publishing. A later date alone is not a source review.
